Wildlife in Bruce Peninsula
The Bruce Peninsula is home to many creatures including bears,lynx,red squirrels,fishers and porcupines.The area contains an significant amount of uninterrupted forest-making a great ecosystem to enable the black bear,fox,red-shouldered hawk,and the Massasauga Rattlesnake .The caves & crevices provide home for ravens.Unfortunately many species have now become endangered which include garter's,ribbon's,red-bellied,milk and water snakes.
Wildlife in Mixedwood Plains
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River were primary attractions for early settlers to the Mixedwood Plains, and not only as a travel route. The waterways supported a tremendous wealth of fish and other aquatic species that stimulated economic growth and regional development. The Great Lakes were once dominated by large species such as Lake Trout, Whitefish, and Sturgeon.The wildlife currently living in the ecozone of mixedwood plains include the canadian geese,mallard,whitetail deer,fox,black bear,chipmunk,raccoon,grey squirrel,blue jay,striped skunk and the short-billed dowitcher.
